Outlook is the most reliable and popular email client that is used by professional as well as general home users. It has several additional functions and features over other email clients and less prone to problems.
But there is nothing 100% fail proof. Like other email clients and applications, Outlook may also create problems. As an example, when your start your Outlook account, you may get the following error message:
“Outlook: Cannot display the folder.’ Microsoft Windows Operating System’ exited without properly closing your Outlook data file ‘c:…Outlook.pst’. ‘Microsoft Office Outlook’ must be restarted.”
After this error message, you need to restart your Outlook account. But after restarting, the same problem occurs again.

Sometimes when you try to open an existing outlook pst file in your Outlook account, you may get the following error message:
“*.pst is not compatible with this version of the Personal Folders information
service”.
Here *.pst is the name of outlook file to which you are trying to open.
After this error message, the outlook pst file(s) become(s) inaccessible and you can’t use them any more.
This problem generally occurs if you try to open a pst file in outlook 2003 or 2007 that has been created in lower versions. The problem occurs due to compatibility issues because Outlook 2003 and 2007 supports different Unicode structure as compared to lower versions.

There are some situations, when you try to open a specific file of your Outlook account, your computer system freezes and even your task manger won’t work and you need for a hard boot. “The Messaging Interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook.”

When you start your Outlook account, you may get one or more of the below error messages:
“Unable to open your default mail folders. Outlook could not start because a location to send and receive mail could not be found”
Or
“Unable to open your default mail folders. The path specified for the file <drive>:\<file name>.pst is not valid”
Or
“Cannot create mail item because a location to send and receive mail could not be found”
After the error message(s), Outlook displays- would you like to open your default File System folder instead?
These error messages generally occur if any of the following conditions are true:
• The Personal Storage (Pst) folder in your mail profile has been deleted
• Your Pst folder file where Outlook convey your mail is damaged or corrupted and Outlook fails to open the same

Microsoft Outlook 2002 and its earlier versions have a 2 GB size limit of PST (Personal Storage) files. This is the general complaint by several users who are still using older versions of Outlook and can not easily replace its use for countless reason.
Due to this size limit, the data can be corrupted or deleted automatically after the size exceeds 2 GB. In these situations, you need to upgrade your Outlook by Outlook 2003. Outlook 2003 can store the PST files up to the size of 20 GB.
