c) If you get an error message like this:

“The type of the file system is NTFS. Cannot lock current drive. Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)”

On encountering this message, click on Y and restart your system.

d) Otherwise Close the command prompt and proceeds by running Outlook Chkdsk/f.

If the problem is not solved, then follow the below steps:

Repair and Create a new PST file

Follow these steps for repairing and creating:

1. Make a backup of the PST file by Starting Windows Explorer after closing MS-Outlook and set the PST file.

Follow the following path to locate your PST file:

For Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Window 2000, and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, The path will be:

Drive:\Documents and Settings\UserID\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

For Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (SE) and Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), The path will be:

Drive:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\LocaleID

2 Rename the Outlook file that has to be repaired as OLD.pst

3 Run Inbuilt Inbox Repair tool to repair corrupted Outlook PST file.

4 Then create a new PST file, you should start Outlook. In the Create/Open Personal Folder file box specify the name of new PST file as you have changed in the previous step.

5 Import the data from Old PST file
